History of our house

Gasthof Eichler was founded in 1967. Maria and Georg Eichler started with only a restaurant and some rooms.
Unfortunately Georg Eichler died in the year 1968. Since then Maria Eichler and her daugther Martha ran the hotel.

Originally the hotel was planned as a restaurant and pension. Later vacation homes were added for rent.
Apart from the normal tourism in the 70s, the climbing popularity started. The first guests brought their tents as the guest rooms were no longer sufficient to accommodate the climbing courses. In the 80s and 90s the campsite developed into a meeting point for climbers and enthusiast. Here you will meet climbers from all over the world. We have guests from Sweden, Spain, Japan, Australia, and many other countries. Maria Eichler became well-known in the worldwide climbing scene as "die Kletteroma" (the climbing grandmother).

For health reasons Maria Eichler moved most of her time and effort from the restaurant, and concentrated mainly on the campground. After long years of waiting, the campsite was finally approved as "Youth- and Shorttime-Campsite" by the district administration.
Good support was granted by IG Klettern Frankenjura & Fichtelgebirge.

For age reasons, Maria Eichler transferred in 1998 the day to day business to her grandson Johannes "Hannes" Walter. With the help of his mother Martha and brothers, the campsite was modernized, extended, and upgraded.
In the reastaurant you can order breakfast and home-made cakes. Also a small kiosk was created after the baker’s shop Meier in Wolfsberg had closed. The kiosk supplies the guests with necessary little things like (rolls, beverages, toothbrushes, soap, candles, etc.). You also can buy all topo guides for Frankenjura and other climbing books.
From 1999 to 2010 the annual IG-Klettern-Party takes place at our site.

"The granny" died in 2006.
